I bought this kit from Nancy J's Fabrics and they were wonderful to work with. My friend Denise send me a picture of her kit and I loved it. (If I was trying to go on a spending moratorium, I'd blame Denise for me buying this. But since I'm not, Thanks, Denise!)Here are some specifics about this quilt. It's designed by Roberta Horton and the pattern can be found in
I have to be honest, I didn't really care for the quilt in the book. I wasn't thrilled with the fabrics and just really didn't take the time to explore different fabric possibilities. Boy was that a mistake!
While at a show (I think Paducah),Denise saw a sample that Nancy J's had made up using very different Kaffe fabrics and it was stunning! She bought the kit and then send me pictures. Even looking at the quilt on the screen of a small phone was beautiful. I called the shop about the kit and was pleasantly surprised when they still had all but one of the fabrics. I asked her to substitute what she thought would work and before you know it, I had purchased the kit. (It was wonderful timing because the shop was packing up to got to Grand Rapids and most of this fabric was going with them. Whew, that was close!)
Anyway, I cut the fabric for this soon after receiving the kit because I wanted to have it ready to sew on a moment's notice. Well, my plan worked and it was wonderful to hear the machine purring away. I even enjoyed the pressing! I have another busy week ahead of me so I don't know how much sewing will get done, but it sure is nice to know that it's there and ready to go. Heck, even 15 minutes of sewing feels great and I'm ok with that.

ReplyDeleteYour giveaway sounds like fun - count me in!!
Hmmmmm... Favorite childhood memory is playing games outside with family and friends on summer evenings!!
Some of my favorite childhood memories involve playing games and riding bikes with the other kids on our cul-de-sac.
ReplyDelete26 hours of labor is a long time but what she was rewarded with made it all worth it. One of favorite childhood memories is of getting to spend the night at my grandma's house in the winter when all the cousins came to town. Grandma's house had one upstairs room and only one. It had nothing in it but four beds. Each had a feather mattress and at least five quilts piled on each bed. This room wasn't heated and only received residual heat from downstairs. We would run up the stairs, dive into the beds and cover up with the quilts. Since the mattress was a featherbed you sunk down into it and with the quilts pulled up to our chins the surface was perfectly flat and all you could see was our heads. Brothers, sisters and cousins would all chatter away until we fell asleep. It was great being a kid in the 50's.
ReplyDeleteI love it when a couple chooses to be surprised. It happens so seldom anymore.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite childhood memories were the summers spent with my grandparents.
Happy birth day to your newest grand child. One of my favorite childhood memories is my Mom teaching me how to ride a bicycle. Which was interesting because she didn't know how to ride one herself but was still able to help me learn. Thanks for the mystery giveaway.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite childhood memory is of my family-gramma, grandpa, mom, dad and my NINE brothers and sisters going to church every Sunday, then going out to breakfast---yes, nice Catholic family with 10 kids----every day was a party!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your new baby!
My favourite memories are of long hot summers on the farm with my siblings! Didn't the sun always shine in the summer when we were children??
ReplyDeleteMy favorite childhood memory is of a wild ride down a mountain road. The brakes went out but my dad made that ride seem like we were on a controlled roller coaster, that trip was a left- right trip - where each of the four children would call out left or right and that was the way we went. Those trips made my mom nervous but I still think that somehow dad knew exactly where we would end up!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your new grandbaby!!.Some of my childhood memories is playing football with my brothers and cousins.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite memories are of playing outside, exploring creeks and trees. We only came home for lunch and dinner, and even though we didn't actually go far from home it felt like we were being so independent. LOL
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win such a generous prize, and congrats on the new brand baby!!

My favorite? I think it would have to be one winter when we built a giant igloo out of snow one winter. We even had a slide on the top...looking back now it prolly wasn't too safe, oh how times have changed
ReplyDeleteI have so many good memories of my childhood. I guess my very favorite was the Christmas when I was 8. My father had taken a new job teaching in the northern part of Illinois and money was tight. Mother learned that my 5 yr old cousin was going to get a two-wheel bike. Mother wanted me to know that they couldn't afford to get me one and didn't want me upset so she told me about it ahead of time. Christmas was always special. We stayed at my grandparents (even when we had lived only 10 miles away), and my cousins and their parents came up from Alabama for a week. The best way I can describe it is that it was like a week long slumber party. So this year after we had opened the gifts under the tree, I was told to take Howard to the kitchen and stay there until called. I was so excited because I knew this was when Howard would get his bike and I was in on the secret. Well, when we were called back into the living room I saw 2 bikes! There was one for me too. It seems that when my grandparents heard about the situation, they decided they would buy the bikes for both of us so that I could have one too. I am now 71 and I still remember it all so vividly!
ReplyDeleteGetting "Horsey back" rides form my dad :)
ReplyDelete@ the bike my grandparents gave me and my cousin the Christmas I was 8. Yes, Actually, it was the only bike I ever had. Being short, I never out grew it.
ReplyDeleteCamping with my 2 sisters and 3 brothers...the girls were the oldest so we got the tent. The boys slept in the pop-up camper. With 6 kids, it was the only vacation my parents could afford. I am a happy follower!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite childhood memory is coming home from school and sitting on a stool in the bathroom and talking to Mom while she was bathing and getting ready for work. She worked 2nd shift and had I not done that, I would have missed the opportunity to talk to h
