Quilting Friends!

I am blessed to have some really awesome quilting friends! I am very happy to share some of their recent quilting projects.  😄

Although she's not in the picture, Bonnie is working on an adorable cat quilt for her granddaughter. Love the bright colors!

Carol finished up this adorable baby quilt for someone and it turned out great!

Carol is also close to finishing her Heart to Heart quilt. She's making the queen version, so she had to make a lot of hearts. 😂

Diane bit the bullet and decided it was time for her to learn to machine quilt.

She's a natural and did an awesome job!

Kathy is a new quilter and she's doing wonderful work. Her Strip Shenanigans is ready for binding. She decided to make it scrappy and it's going to look awesome!

Kathy's Nine Patch Party is really nice and that's ready for binding too!

Sharon had previously made the Heart to Heart quilt that Carol is making. She had extra squares and decided to make pot holders.

Sheila has us all jealous of the fact that she's working on Christmas gifts already. She doing an awesome job!

As I've said before, I'm blessed to have so many talented people in my life.

HUGE Announcement and Design Wall Monday

Many of you know that I am honored to teach at M & E, a local quilt shop. It's a really fun shop with wonderful owners and lots of awesome customers.  Well, I've been keeping a secret that I am now allowed to finally share.

They've been selected to be in the Spring issue of Quilt Sampler Magazine!  YIPPEE!!!

The only reason I've known about the surprise is because they asked little old me to design their quilt for the magazine. Wow! Was I thrilled to do so. Here's a picture of a smaller version of the quilt (the magazine wanted it in king size!). This was an awesome experience and I am so happy for Mabel and Ethel.
The Star of Methel

Made for:  Mabel and Ethel (M & E Quilt Shoppe)
Designed by:  Joanne Hubbard aka "Agnes"
Pieced by: JoEllen Schadek aka "Ho"
Quilted by:  Lesa Guerrera aka "Emogeane"

Here's the link to the announcement and a fun link to when they announced it at the shop this past Thursday.

These two ladies sure do deserve this honor!

So, on to my design wall...

I've been crazy busy the last couple of weeks, and it has been decided that my computer is toast so my son-in-law is building me a new one. Hopefully it will be ready to go with all the data restored on to it later this week.

I decided over the weekend that I needed to have things cut and ready so that I could just sit down and sew, even if I only have 15 minutes. That's what I did Sunday evening, after I finished my lesson plans for the week and tentatively scheduled the following weeks plans.

I have four table runners ready to piece along with a hexagon table topper. These are all made using the Easy Stripe Table Runner pattern and a 60 degree ruler. I have the backings and batting ready and think that it will be possible to have all of these done by the end of the week. (I don't really care if they aren't done. I just want to feel productive again!)

These first two runners are made from a single 1.5 yard cut of fabric. I decided to make these "opposite" and like both of them, although I think I like to top one better. (Ignore the brown streak in the middle of these runners. They are not pieced yet and that will be gone when that is done.) The fabric used in these runners is Bluebird, by Timeless Treasures. I love sunflowers. Need I say more?

There are two of the runners below, although I only photographed one. Both are ready for piecing and will be identical.

This is the hexagon table topper that I'm making from the "waste" triangles from cutting the two runners above. Again, it's not pieced yet so...

This fabric is called Love and it is also from Timeless Treasures. I love the mason jars and daisies. I have already decided that the table topper will have a mason jar set in the middle of it, and it will be filled with daisies.  :-)

What are you working on today?

Design Wall Monday

This past week has been very busy!

Jack was in DC for five days singing and I hosted an Old Bags' Day Sew-In while he was gone. Because it was a holiday, Ann and Jerry were both able to stay an extra day, which was a lot of fun.

I had to pick Jack up in Fremont at 4:30 in the morning and we spent most of Tuesday catching up with each other and the events of those five days, so I didn't get much quilting accomplished that day. It was worth it, though!

On Wednesday, Lynn and I drove to Columbus to pick up Sadie and Ronan so Nikki and Zach could spend some quality time packing without two youngsters vying for attention. Quinn was still in school, so she had to stay with them, but I'm guessing she may have been able to help a little. By the way, the final move was made on Saturday and all went well. I know Nikki and Zach are both very tired, but I'm thrilled that they are back living in this neck of the woods. :-)

I often forget how much energy two little ones have. It was tiring, but fun having them here. Unfortunately, Jack was not feeling well (respiratory issues from the trip) so he couldn't enjoy them as much as me. He did read a little to them and meal time is always hilarious.

I think the funniest thing was when Sadie asked if Grandpa Jack was going to get a "bananabiotic" to make him feel better. Then she asked the pharmacist if his medicine tastes like bubble gum because her's does and that will make him "be not sick" faster. When the pharmacist said it didn't, Sadie asked if she could make it taste better, or maybe he should just chew gum while he took it. It still makes me grin just thinking about it and everyone, including the ever-so-professional pharmacist couldn't contain their laughter. Out of the mouths of babes, right?

Anyway, back to Design Wall Monday. here's what's really on my wall right now. What a mess, right? This is the layering of the projects that I finished up yesterday and need quilted ASAP.

I'll un-layer everything for you. Here's the Jewel Box wall hanging that I showed last week. I love how this looks and can't wait to quilt it!

I'll be teaching a series of table runner classes (all using a 60 degree ruler), starting in July and here are the new samples. The one on the left is fun vegetable fabric and it was made using the Easy Strip Table Runner pattern.

I love the effect of the runner on the right. It was made using the Triangle Frenzy Runner pattern. by Bunnie Cleland. This is easy to make and I can see so many possibilities here!

It gets better! Here's my short version of the Triangle Frenzy Swirl, also by Bunnie Cleland.

And a longer version of the same pattern.

And last but not least, my version of the Bunnie's Triangle Frenzy Hexagon. I love this one!

I am so excited for these classes and can't wait to see what fabrics everyone has chosen. With patterns like these, there is no need to be worried about using striped fabrics or "odd" angle rulers.  :-)

Design Wall Monday

I've got to get back in the routine of posting and I think today's Design Wall Monday is just the way to do that.

I have my Zen Garden with the white background up right now. Here are 11 blocks completely done, and I have the other 9 ready for the side strips. I'm using a jelly roll called Ticklish by Me & My Sister for Moda and I think it is so fresh and fun!

I really like this pattern. It's by Little Louise Designs and I'm also making it with a dark background. The really cool thing about the quilt is that since it only it takes 20 strips 2 1/2" x width of fabric (half a jelly roll), I can make both quilts and only have to come up with background fabrics. YEAH!!  This is the second of her patterns that I've made (Gateway to Paradise was the first), and it also only used half a jelly roll.  I have a couple other patterns by Little Louise Designs that I'm going to make, so be on the look out for them soon! I think these will make great classes. That's what Zen Garden is for so I better get busy and get it (them) done.  :-)
I have a couple of table runners that are not technically on the design wall, but since I made them today and they are ready to be quilted, I'm lumping them in with today's design wall post. These are made using the Easy Striped Table Runner pattern that I've mentioned before. Super simple, and super cute!

Click here to see a picture of a couple of other table runners I've done using this pattern. I made at least five of these table runners in November and I think I forgot to take pictures of most of them. Darn! I do have this one and I really like it. I think there is one more at Country Fabrics because it was hung up for display to advertise my class. I think I should check and see if it is still there.

Design Wall Monday

My how time flies! It's Monday already and another design wall day. I really do enjoy Monday because I get the opportunity (or is it an excuse?) to spend a chunk of time on the computer checking out LOTS of quilting projects. Thanks Judy!

Here's one of the projects on the wall for me today.

Yep, another set of Easy Striped Table Runners. These are so quick to make and I love having a bunch on hand for quick gifts.

Do you see the strip to the left? I really need to find a way to use them. These table runners don't need binding so I can't use them there, but I really don't want to throw them away. They are 2" wide and just so darn pretty. If I can't think of anything else, I may use them as ribbon for Christmas gifts.  :-)

I can't show you the other project that is up on the wall because it is for my Dots on Dots Blog Hop post tomorrow but here's a sneak peek at some of the fabrics that I used.

Be sure to check back here because not only will I be posting my block (and finished project), there will be a link to other hop sites and a giveaway opportunity. I'm feeling generous so there will actually be three giveaways!  :-) WoooHooo!!

Grab a cup of coffee, tea, soda or water and check out what other quilters have on their design walls today. Go to Judy L's Patchwork Times and have a great day!

Design Wall Monday

There's a lot going on here so I'll just get to the point (actually I'll get to the pictures!)

First off is my friend Jean's quilt that I quilted on another friends HQ16. This is now ready for binding. YEAH!

Here's the back. Not a great picture but I think you can see the texture. (I love that!)

Here's a close up of the quilting. The pattern is called Spring Thing, by Jodi Beamish. Yep, I used red thread on both the top and bottom of this quilt. Now both sides are a two-color quilt!

Speaking of quilting, this is Jerry's Framed Rectangles quilt that is ready to be quilted. I'm using the Spring Thing pattern on this one too. Can you tell I really like that design? Actually, Jerry picked that out without me using my powers of persuation, but I have to say that I'm happy he chose it. :-)

(By the way, this picture was taken at the montly Milan Quilt Builders guild meeting. Click here to check out all the wonderful quilts that were shown during our "Sew and Tell."

Here are two Easy Striped Table Runners that are ready for the quilting. This pattern has been around for a few years, but it is so quick and easy that I use it often. In case you've never used this pattern before, I will tell you that there are five seams and NO mitering. That's it! It's all in the cutting of the 60 degree triangles. Also, since you use the "birthing" method of layering, there is no binding. Simple, and they made super (and super fast) gifts!

These two runners were made using the same striped fabric. The difference is in where I cut my repeat (in other words, how wide my stripes were cut). Two table runner tops out of 1 1/2 yards of fabric! Not bad.  :-)

And finally, these are fabrics I'm using for my contribution to the Dots on Dots Blog Hop. I can't show you my blocks because I don't post until Sept. 18th, but you can see what is up so far today. Grab a cup of coffee, tea or soda, sit back and realx and then click on this link to see the "dotalicious" creations! Each day of the Hop I will post a link to the daily contributors. Many of the contributors are providing tutorials, giveaways, etc. and I know we all like that. Enjoy and be sure to leave comments for the contributors. I'm sure they'd all love to hear what you think of their projects.

I'm going to see if I can cut and paste each day's list. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
