On the Wall Today

I missed posting yesterday, hence the title of this post is "On the Wall Today." I kind of like that and will have to remember to use it more often. It makes it sound like I didn't miss a deadline.  lol

I've got a handful of things on which I'm working that I can't show, but I'm happy to say that I am also working on a few things that can be shared.

While attempting to clean up the mess in my sewing area, I came across some loose 10" squares that were left over from another project. Rather then put them away, I decided to use them. Yep, I'll do just about anything to put off cleaning. 😅 I pulled one of my "go to" Layer Cake projects, Picket Fence by Busy Hands Quilts and started doing some math. (See, even doing quilting math is better than cleaning!)

I have an older copy of the pattern, which includes six size options. (The new one has seven!) I had enough to make the baby size (I'd have some squares left over), but not enough to make the lap. Since I want to use all of the squares I have, I decided to make my own size.

I pulled out my favorite prints because those would not be cut and then found a coordinating fabric that I liked. Of course I had to decide the order that those squares would be used. I'm kind of a control freak like that.

I started sewing this project as a leader/ender while working on a secret sewing quilt and it's coming together very quickly.

Here is a perfect example why it is important to take a picture before I start sewing everything together! Do you see my mistake? My bottom two rows are wrong. I laid out the pieced blocks in the wrong orientation.

This is much better!

When finished, this quilt should measure approximately 48" x 66". I may add a border or two, if I can find something in my stash. If not, it's no big deal. I like it like this.

I need to get back to working, so I'll share pictures of another project tomorrow.

Design Wall Monday

I decided to toss some of the leader/ender blocks that I've been making onto the design wall this morning. I just wanted to play a little, rather than sew.

I joined the Border Creek Station 2020 Stash Buster Challenge at the beginning of the year and I've been enjoying the process. I'm using my scraps/smallish pieces of red, white, and cream fabrics to make 8" blocks (there are instructions to make three sizes). My hope is to make enough blocks to create three Quilts of Valor. I typically don't use the same pattern to make the QOVs that I award in any given year, but since the layout options are very plentiful for this block, I decided to go ahead and do it.

This is not necessarily the layout that I will use. I am just playing today. I'll update with pictures when I'm putting tops together.

Yesterday, I share a picture of my version of the Christmas Cactus Table Topper.

I also mentioned that I made four additional blocks and was finishing up with my borders to create an 86" square quilt. I did finish that and attempted to get some pictures. Of course the wind did not want to cooperate...

I'm choosing to believe that the wind wanted me to visualize what the quilt will look like on our bed.  :-)

I'm very pleased with the quilt. Now to get it quilted and bound before next Christmas.

I am continuing to make masks, work on some UFOs, sketch some new designs, and quilt the many tops that I have in my "tub of shame."

Seeing Red

I am participating in the Color It Red Blog Hop next month so I'm playing around with some red squares today.

I've got a couple of UFOs that "fit the bill," but of course I decided that I also want to make something totally new too. 😏

So....here's what's on my cutting table right now.

The funny thing about pulling all these red fabrics is that some don't look red once you put them next to another red square. I'm using them anyway, because I just really want to use up these pieces and it really won't matter in what I'm making.

Do you see that little piece of grey dot fabric? That's the only other color/fabric that I'm using for the quilt top.

I don't even have the top half together and Jack is already talking about the binding. He wants something other than red. We'll see....

I'm not quite sure when I'm scheduled to post yet, but I'll let you know as soon as I do.

This is going to be fun!
