Stash/UFO Report

So I'm finally getting around to my Stash/UFO report. Where does the time go?

Anyway, I finished the binding on the Amazon Star quilt and my Fiesta! quilt. Here's a quick picture of Fiesta!

I'll get a better picture soon, but I still have Summer Solstice on the wall and that's the best place to take a picture. Actually, I haven't touched that quilt since last week! I did however, work on something else (new) and put that up beside the Summer Solstice. I should have finished one before starting the next, but you know how it goes.  :-)

So, 10 UFO quilts have been completed in 2012 and 13 new quilts have been completed. It sure is nice to have them DONE, DONE, and DONE (pieced, quilted and bound). I also finished the top of another new quilt and since it's small I am going to try to get that quilted and bound by the end of the week. Wish me luck!

Stash Report - Sort Of....

It has been so long since I posted that I actually had to think for a second when I typed my password! That is so sad.

Anyway, as you can see from the title of this post, I am posting a modified stash report. Since it's been a while since my last report (you can see it here), I started thinking about how I feel about them. I know when I started them about two and a half years ago that I really wanted to do them so I became a more conscious fabric shopper. It was not uncommon for me to buy fabric just because I liked it; and since I didn't know how I was going to use it, I bought a lot of it and a bunch of coordinating fabrics. That would have been fine, but I wasn't using what I was buying. Well, that's not exactly true. I would buy, start a project and them put it away because something new and shiny showed up that I just NEEDED to work on. Of course, I know you can figure out what has happened. I have a bunch of projects that have been started, neatly packed away, ready to be completely. Ok, maybe they are so neatly packed away, but they are packed away.

Anyway, I have made a concerted effort to complete projects and think I've made some great progress over the last few years. Here's last years ending stash report and 2010's year-end report. In 2010, I didn't keep track of UFOs or completed new projects but I know I did a fair amount. It doesn't really matter, I did these reports for me and they have done exactly what I wanted them to do. They have made me a more conscious shopper and quilter.

So, why have I not regularly posted stash reports since May 13th? Well, I guess it's because I've been busy and/or lazy. But I also feel like I don't have the NEED to do it regularly. The reports have done exactly what they were supposed to do and I will post sporadically, or as needed. It's kind of like a diet or healthy eating plan. When you first begin, you really need those meetings/check-ins, etc. to keep you motivated and on track; but once you get going you feel more confident and just need a refresher ever once in a while. Now don't get the wrong idea. I really am not seriously dieting, although I should be. I just see similarities.  :-)

Anyway, over the past month or so, I have purchased just a few yards of fabric and all of them have specific projects in mind. A few of them have been worked on, but not all. I have finished some projects and have twelve projects that are ready to be quilted right now, nine of which are UFOs. I'm sure there are more, but these are the ones that I have unpacked and plan to quilt soon.

Will I continue to post reports? Yes I will, but probably not weekly and I think the focus has changed. I find the UFO reports more important to me now than the fabric buying and using, so that is what I will mainly report.

Do I have a goal for completing UFOs? Sort of. I want to priotoritize the UFOs and go from there. One that is ready to be quilted is for Nikki and I finished the borders back in May but haven't done anything with it yet. THAT is precisely what I want to stop! I want to follow through and finish projects. Why did I set this aside and not quilt it as soon as the borders were added? I'm guessing that I didn't have a backing yet, so it got set aside. That's what's dangerous. I really am a "out of sight, out of mind" kind of gal. Maybe seeing the stack of "To Be Quilted" tops will inspire guilt me into finishing them.

The Report:

UFO's Completed in 2012 - 9
New Quilts Completed in 2012 - 12
Quilts Ready to Be Quilted - 12 (9 UFOs)
(Of course this number is subject to change when I start opening storage bins!)
Quilts Ready for Binding - 1 (being worked on now)

Stayed tuned for updates!

Stash Enhancement

This really isn't going to be a full stash report, but I wanted to share what I've been up to the last couple of days.

It is time again for our Annual Sisters' Weekend, and as usual, we've had a blast. Check out these pictures to see our "digs" for the event. We made a trip into Nelsonville (actually, two trips to be exact), and that required trips to Nelsonville Quilt Company. This is a really fun shop and I always look forward to stopping by and leaving a bit of cash behind. Here's my stash enhancement from the first trip. I didn't just shop willy-nilly. I have plans for all of these pieces. The two fabrics to the left will be used in a Snap Happy project while the others will be used in a little something that I'm still sketching.

The second trip netted the following fabrics. The two fabrics on the right are for Terri's quilt that is still in our minds. She REALLY likes the top fabric and decided that we should get a bit of it to remind us of the "inspiration" fabric.  Don't tell my friend Kare, but the fabric on the left is for her!

All told, I only bought 4 yards of fabric, but my sisters each bought some, so it was a good trip. Ann and I plan to make another trip to the shop either Monday or Tuesday so who knows what will find it's way back to the house. That will appear in another stash report, so I'm not even going to think about it right now. Out of sight, out of mind, right?

Let me tell you a bit about Nelsonville Quilt Company.

The shop is located in the Historic Art District of Nelsonville, Ohio and was started in 2003 as a longarm shop only. Lucky for us, in 2005 Susan (the owner) came to her senses and converted a former doctor's office into a retail quilt shop that boasts over 2300 bolts of awesome fabric! The shop offers a variety of classes and has some wonderful samples of not only quilts, but purses, bags, and lots of other items to tickle your creative fancy.

The bottom picture above is the door to the classroom. It is a really nice set up with great space and good lighting. The back of the room houses a Gammill, along with some really fun threads, a nice selection of batting, various wide backing fabrics, etc. I really liked the classroom space and would love to teach there. I'm sure most of you teachers out there know that great classroom space is often difficult to come by, so you appreciate it when you see it.

As an authorized Janome dealer, a certified Tin Lizzie Dealer and a Gammill sales rep, I have no doubt that Susan or any of the staff can answer whatever questions you may have in regards to quilting. They are all so helpful and fun that it truly is a pleasure to shop there. They make you feel just like you have walked into your home shop (or Cheers - remember that show?). Of course it doesn't hurt that all seven of the sisters think Susan looks and talks like our cousin Laura. We feel like she's just part of the family. (Susan, if you are reading this, Ann and I will see you soon!)

Just across the street from the quilt shop is The Little Yarn Shop.

Now I'm not a knitter, but this was fun stop for me. Gail, the owner was lots of fun and patient with us as we invaded visited her shop. She has some wonderful fibers at the shop including Plymouth Encore, Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride and Nature Spun. She is also an Ashford dealer for your all your spinning and weaving needs, and carries a good selection of DMC floss and other embroidery and counted cross stitch supplies. (How many of you quilters started your crafting life as cross stitchers? I know I'm not the only one out there!)

I didn't get as much as a couple of my sisters, but here's my stash from that visit. Again, don't tell Kare, but she's getting one of these bottles.  :-)

We sure did pick a great day to stop at the shop because it was Thursday, which is Sale Day. There were LOTS of things 50% off (almost everything in ths shop), including my Gloves in a Bottle. WOOHOO!!

Thursday is Stitch Night at the shop so if you live close by, head over to Nelsonville at 5pm with a project and some food for a stitchin' good time!

Both shops have facebook pages. Check them out here.  https://www.facebook.com/thelittleyarnshop

In regards to my Stash Report.... 4 yards in, but since I'm not home and haven't updated my report on this computer, I have no idea of what has gone out in the past few weeks. I have to get busy with that....next week.

Stash Report

Not a whole lot of quilting has been happening around here lately. Quinn and Sadie stayed with us for a couple of days after Nikki, Zach and Ronan left and that was a lot of fun. While Sadie napped one afternoon, Quinn and I made some small pillows. Check out this post to see some pictures. She loves the pillows, as does Sadie, who uses hers in the car.

The girls spent a couple of days at Lynn and Ty's house after they left here and I know they had a great time! They sure do love their Aunt Lynn and Uncle Ty.

After the girls left, Jack's grandson Ian came to spend a few days and it was really nice to see him. Unfortunately he ended up with strep throat and didn't feel so hot the last few days. We're keeping our fingers crossed that he didn't share the infection, but we'll see.

Last night we went to watch Jack's granddaughter Hannah perform in her school musical All Shook Up. It was a really good show and Hannah was awesome. I'm amazed at the talent that she and her schoolmates have.

Back to the stash report.....

I did get the borders added to the Carolina Crossroads quilt. I was a bit hesitant about these borders and introducing the floral fabric in the border, but Nikki really likes it and since it's going to be her quilt and she was certain that she'd like it, I did it.

I like the result and will like it even more when it's quilted and the binding is added because that will be one of the teal/green fabrics in the body of the quilt. Or maybe not....After looking at this a bit more, maybe I will try the dark brown again. I guess I'll just wait until it's quilted and decide.

I made a small purse Friday night (haven't taken a picture yet) and had a couple of embroidery orders, and that was all the time I spent in the sewing room.

I know I said it before, but really, here's the report:
Fabric Added This Week: 0.00 yards

Stash Report-Weeks 18 & 19

There was some fabric usage worth reporting this past two weeks, but it isn't because I did any sewing. I had a couple of technique classes for which I made up kits from my stash. For the past two weeks I have been stealing away a few minutes at a time to handstitch binding. I finished two (check out the puzzle quilt here) and I'm almost done with the second one. I don't have a picture of Ronan's completed quilt, but it is done. Maybe I'll get a picture later today.

I may not have a great net fabric usage number, but I'm thrilled at my quilt completion numbers!

Here's the Report:
Fabric Added These Two Weeks: 0.00 yards
Fabric Added to Date: 150.25 yards

Fabric Used These Weeks: 14.75 yards
Fabric Used to Date: 175.125 yards
Net Fabric Used for 2012: 24.875 yard

UFOs Done, Done, Done (Pieced, Quilted, and Bound): 8

Stash Report - Weeks 16 and 17

I've been using up some of the massive amount of fabric that I reported as "In" in my last stash report. I still have a lot to use, but I'm out of the red for now. I'm really not stressing about this. I know it'll all get used - eventually. I'm please with my numbers here, especially the five UFOs completely done (and three more that are quilted and ready for binding) and the nine new quilts completely done.

Of course, the fact that I have eleven quilts that are ready for quilting is a bit daunting, but I'll get to them. It's just that I seeem to always find a new project that just calls out to me and says "Joanne, you need to make me. Put aside other things and move me to the front of the list. NOW!" Well, as you all probably understand, you just have to listen to the voice of reason fabric and do what needs to be done. I admit it. I lack quilting discipline. Maybe there should be a support group for those of us with this affliction. Maybe I should work on this. Maybe.....see there I go again. Distraction!!

Back to the stash report. I finished the Amazon Star top and that used a lot of fabric, and I'm close to finishing the Summer Solstice. I finished up a couple of little projects and those are already gifted; plus I got the binding machine sewn to the Pink Stars quilt that Lynn started a number of years ago and I finally finished. I don't think I ever showed a picture of that. Heck, I don't even find a picture of the quilt at all, so I'll try to remember to snap a shot of that and post a picture later today or tomorrow.

I've been working on a couple of other projects that have deadlines and that has defintely put a kink in my sewing time. My goal is to finish up all those things in the next day or so and get back to sewing. Well, maybe not actual productive sewing, but some sewing. Jerry is coming to visit this coming weekend and Nikki and family will be arriving here in a few days. I just have to spend time being Grandma.  :-)

Here's the Report:
Fabric Added These Two Weeks: 0.00 yards
Fabric Added to Date: 150.25 yards

Fabric Used These Weeks: 28.50 yards
Fabric Used to Date: 160.375 yards
Net Fabric Used for 2012: 10.25 yard

UFOs Done, Done, Done (Pieced, Quilted, and Bound): 5
UFOs Still to Do: ??? (I really should make a list, but that would only upset me!)
New Quilts Done, Done, Done (Pieced, Quilted, and Bound): 9
Quilts Ready to be Quilted and Bound: 11

Stash Report - Weeks 8-15

YIKES!! I haven't posted a stash report in a very long time, and I only made two posts the entire month of March. I've been very busy and now I'm trying to play catch-up. It's really not working too well, but I'll keep plugging along. Hopefully, I'll have an opportunity to take and post pictures of the quilts on which I've been working. (Don't hold your breath, though.)

I spent 9 days at Tennesee Quilts at a workshop with Judy Niemeyer and that was wonderful! I had every intention of posting pictures during my stay, but I didn't have to cord needed to download the pictures from my camera. It was on the ironing station, right next to some papers that I printed out and planned to take with me.  :-)

Anyway, even though I haven't been posting, I've been keeping a pretty good log of my stash ins and outs. I have to double check it to be sure I haven't missed anything, but I'm going to go ahead and post what I have and make corrections as needed.

Now, before you look at these numbers, remember that I worked on three projects during the workshop in Tennessee (Summer Solstice, Bali Bed Runner, and Amazon Star) and I've included the fabric in for those, but not the out because I don't include them until the top is complete. Also, I had the opportunity to have Judy Niemeyer pull fabric for kits while I was there so I just HAD to buy them. She pulled for Raindrops and Christmas Celebrations Tree Skirt, but I also bought a kit for Summer Solstice using Kaffee Fassett fabrics. I also bought a kit for Pauline Smith's Vintage quilt from Kaffee's Quilts in Sweden book.

Ok, that last paragragh was written in order to mak me feel better about my numbers. Thanks for letting me try and delude myself. Didn't work, but it was worth a try.  :-)

Here's the report:

Fabric Added These Weeks: 124.75 yards
Fabric Added to Date: 150.25 yards
Fabric Used These Weeks: 69.625 yards
Fabric Used to Date: 131.875 yards
Net Fabric Used for 2012: -18.375 yard

I have to check out these numbers so they are the same as the last report in February.
UFOs Done, Done, Done (Pieced, Quilted, and Bound): 4
UFOs Still to Do: ??? (I really should make a list, but that would only upset me!)
New Quilts Done, Done, Done (Pieced, Quilted, and Bound): 2
Quilts Ready to be Quilted and Bound: 13
Quilts Quilted and Ready to be Bound: 1

Stash Report - Weeks 5-7

Although I've neglected to report, I have been keeping a record of my ins and outs of fabric. I'm happy to say that all of what I bought when I was on retreat at the end of January was purchased with a specific project in mind and that I've completed the top to one of those projects and am ready to add the borders to the another one. I have backing for both of those quilts as well as the binding.WooHoo!

I've counted all the fabric as purhases, but not all as used yet. When I buy new fabrics for a specific quilt, I count all fabric in at the time of purchase.  But, I don't count them out until the top is complete. And, I don't count the backing and binding out until that is done. That's kind of an incentive to not have tops sitting around waiting to be quilted. I already have a bunch of those from previous years, so I really don't need to be adding more! I am working hard at finishing a UFO between starting a new project, but it really is a challenge for me. There are soooooo many wonderful quilts that I see that I want to make! Maybe I should avoid looking at the Design Wall Monday posts or Pinterst. NOT!!!

Here's the report:

Fabric Added These 3 Weeks: 13.50 yards
Fabric Added to Date: 25.5 yards
Fabric Used These 3 Weeks: 23.75 yards
Fabric Used to Date: 62.25 yards
Net Fabric Used for 2012: 36.75 yard

UFOs Done, Done, Done (Pieced, Quilted, and Bound): 4
UFOs Still to Do: ??? (I really should make a list, but that would only upset me!)
New Quilts Done, Done, Done (Pieced, Quilted, and Bound): 2
Quilts Ready to be Quilted and Bound: 13
Quilts Quilted and Ready to be Bound: 1

Stash Report - Week 4

It was a good week! I've got two more quilts quilted so that used up some backing yardage. And even though I bought more backing fabric because it was on sale, it pretty much equals out - only 3/4 yard bought more than used. YEAH!! I love it when that happens.

Now, here's a warning about my next report. I will be going on a retreat to Holmes County (Amish Country) from Friday - Monday and of course no matter how much I think I'm NOT going to buy, I always do. My only saving grace is that I usually get a lot sewn and I hope that holds true this time.

Here's the report:

Fabric Added This Week: 12.00 yards
Fabric Added to Date: 12.0 yards
Fabric Used This Week: 11.75 yards
Fabric Used to Date: 38.50 yards
Net Fabric Used for 2012: 26.50 yard

UFOs Done, Done, Done (Pieced, Quilted, and Bound): 2
UFOs Still to Do: ??? (I really should make a list, but that would only upset me!)
New Quilts Done, Done, Done (Pieced, Quilted, and Bound):
Quilts Ready to be Quilted and Bound: 12
Quilts Quilted and Ready to be Bound: 2

Stash Report - Weeks 2 & 3

Since I didn't report anything last week and I did sew quite a bit before I headed to Dayton, I have decent numbers to share. I've made two tops since the new year began (Margarita Sunrise#2 and Weave It To Me) and I finished my Tumbler UFO. There has been no fabric purchases so far this year, but that could change at any moment, as we all know. I think I have the backing fabric for all three of the tops that I recently finished so I need to get them quilted and count that fabric as "out the door."

What a perfect day to sew! It's cold outside but toasty in here, thanks to the fire in the fireplace. And the smell of soup simmering on the stove and Jack's bread rising in the kitchen is so wonderful! I've got to get a handwork project ready so I can sew and watch the football game later! As I said, it's a perfect day....to sew!

Here's the report:

Fabric Added This Week: 0.0 yards
Fabric Added to Date: 0.0 yards
Fabric Used These Two Weeks: 26.75 yards
Fabric Used to Date: 26.75 yards
Net Fabric Used for 2012: 0.0 yard

UFOs Done, Done, Done (Pieced, Quilted, and Bound):
UFOs Still to Do: ??? (I really should make a list, but that would only upset me!)
New Quilts Done, Done, Done (Pieced, Quilted, and Bound):
Quilts Ready to be Quilted and Bound: 14
Quilts Quilted and Ready to be Bound: 0
